The Sunset Pavilion
One of the Glassy “showcase” vantage points is located at the very top of Glassy Mountain. The Sunset Pavilion is an open-air retreat providing a perfect natural backdrop for cocktails with friends or quiet moments of reflection. Residents gather weekly where appetizers and camaraderie are shared. There’s truly no better place to enjoy colorful and brilliant sunsets with a 180-degree view of the Blue Ridge Mountains or the twinkling lights of the Greenville/Spartanburg cities below. It’s one of many places on the mountain where you will make new friends and memories.
The Glassy Chapel
The Chapel is a beautiful sanctuary built on the top of Glassy Mountain. Truly inspiring, it features a two story wall of glass that overlooks 75 miles of South Carolina scenery. This is home to seasonal worship services held from May to October. Other events include our monthly Concert Series featuring local musicians and performers. The Glassy Mountain Chorale, a group of residents who enjoy singing together with professional leadership, also performs here. The Chapel doors are open every day, year-round, to allow a place for contemplative time for residents and their guests.
Hiking Trails
The area on and around Glassy offers some of the best hiking opportunities anywhere. On the mountain, two community trails await. The Nature Trail, with its breathtaking views, is 1.39 miles long and will challenge the more serious hiker. Canines and their companions enjoy the trail in The Park at Glassy which is comfortable for all levels of fitness. No less than eight state parks, national forests and land preserves, are nearby offering a range of trails for the serious as well as casual hiker. Stunning views of nature and natural waterfalls don’t disappoint. The Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve Trail can be accessed directly from the mountain.
The Children’s Village
Glassy has many areas for visiting families to enjoy and the Children’s Village is a fun paradise for both the little ones and their adult companions. Complete with a playhouse, swings, a sandbox, the ‘Big Jim’ train and ‘Captain Jimbo’ pirate ship, this play area is sure to delight everyone. The Children’s Village is in a lovely shaded setting with ample seating for the grownups to visit while the children play.
The Park at Glassy
Located in the heart of the Glassy community sits a 17-acre area called The Park at Glassy. In 2020, a group of talented residents, working with a landscape design firm, designed a significant renovation of the current park area. The Park’s design sports a one mile, paved path with gently changing elevations for walking and jogging. The design creates an open environment to enjoy both the beauty and tranquility of nature. Shade and flowering trees, an open lawn area, wildflower areas, benches and picnic areas will complete this setting. A fenced dog park area is also planned for the future. The Park is the only area within Glassy that our four-legged family members are allowed to roam off-leash.
